Susan Haines Ruchie was born September 9, 1964 in Willmar, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Donna (Meline) Haines. She grew up in Willmar, was baptized and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church. Susi attended Lafayette Elementary School and graduated from Willmar High School in 1982. She attended Ridgewater Community College and then the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. Susi was a registered dietitian who worked for many years at Hennepin County Medical Center and Abbot Northwestern Hospital.

In 1995 she met the love of her life, Mark Ruchie, at an all schools meeting in Willmar. The two were a little ‘shy’ and had the two mothers’ secret weapon that helped them keep in touch until they were married on March 24, 2001. Her ‘drop-out’ phrase with her husband was ‘I love knitting , family and travel”. This union resulted in their greatest achievement in this world, their daughter Elvy. Susi enjoyed reading to Elvy, playing games with her, and helping her learn about the world.

Susi was a stick twirler for the “U” of the Arizona Wildcat Marching Band. She grew up competing in baton twirling contests all over the Midwest and three times in Hawaii. She has also been a Talent Show winner at the MN State Fair, Minneapolis Aquatennial and on Discoverama TV. She started teaching twirling in high school and some of her students became champions as well. She also gave twirling lessons in Sweden. Susi spoke Swedish and enjoyed the activities at the American Swedish Institute. Susi loved genealogy and her trips to Sweden and Norway to meet relatives.

Susi was a member of the Normandale Lutheran Church in Edina where she was Minister Stephen.

Susi is survived by her husband, Mark, her daughter, Elvy of Edina; mother, Donna, brother, Bob (Dona) Haines of Willmar, aunts Helen Sullivan of Willmar and Marilyn Meline of Stanton. She was predeceased by her father, John Haines, aunt Avis (Meline) Johnson and uncle Harry Meline.
