Ramona “Mona” V. Flack, 87, of Willmar, died Friday afternoon, April 1, at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13 at Vinje Lutheran Church with visitation one hour before the service. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Peterson Brothers Funeral Home. www.petersonbrothers.com

Ramona “Mona” Virginia Flack was born in Goodrich, North Dakota on May 5, 1934, the daughter of David and Helen (Dockter) Steinley. As a child, Mona was always involved in activities such as stick and flag lessons, tap dancing, ice skating and drum lessons. She graduated from Moorhead High School in 1952. Mona attended Concordia College, Moorhead, MN, where she studied business. While there, she met the love of her life, Chester Flack. On March 26, 1955, they were married in Alexandria, MN while Chet was on leave from the military. They briefly moved to Ayer, Massachusetts, then returned to Moorhead where Chet completed his education degree at Concordia College. While Chet was in college, Mona worked as a secretary at Northwestern Equipment Incorporated where she was in charge of event planning and was the president’s personal secretary.

Over the years, Chet and Mona have lived in various close-knit communities where Mona enjoyed entertaining and having coffee with her friends. In 1966 the family moved to Granite Falls, MN and lived there from 1966 to 1992. She was a member of the Granite Falls Lutheran Church and was very involved in church activities.

Mona has always said that her greatest joy in life was being a wife and mother. She loved the opportunity to be home with her family. When her children grew up, Mona worked at the fashion boutique, Dalin’s drugstore and the flower shop in Granite. She enjoyed her part-time jobs and was extremely outgoing. Mona knew everyone in town and always enjoyed having conversations with everyone she met on the street. She had a way of always making you smile. She spent her free time cycling, walking, cleaning her house, and spending time with her family and friends. Her grandchildren always enjoyed watching funny movies and shows with her because her laughter was so contagious.

Chet and Mona moved to Willmar in 1992. During their retirement, they took many cruises and road trips and vacationed in Arizona during the winter months. They spent many weekends participating in the sports and artistic activities of their grandchildren. They were the pride and joy of his life. Mona was an active member of the Vinje Lutheran Church. She sang in the choir for 15 years and enjoyed working in the church kitchen. She participated in the Bible study and was a friendly visitor. She has volunteered at Rice Memorial Hospital and other community programs. Mona enjoyed spending time with her family at her cabin on West Battle Lake during the summer months. In 2021, Mona moved to Eden Prairie to be closer to her family members.

She is survived by her daughters, Lori (and Jim) Velde of Detroit Lakes, MN; Lisa (and John) Diekman of Victoria, MN; and son, Greg (and Shari) Flack of Cave Creek, AZ; nine grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, brother and grandparents.
