“Fred” Marvin Frederick Suppes, 87 of Detroit Lakes, MN, died Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.
Fred was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on March 15, 1935, to Frederick and Adela (Schwenzfeier) Suppes. He attended country school until eighth grade and graduated from Lancaster, MN, High School in 1953.
On June 29, 1957, he was married to Ruth Braaten at Bethany Lutheran Church, Hatton, ND. Fred then joined the army and was stationed in Germany, where Ruth and their new baby boy, Mark, joined him. Upon completion of his service, Fred attended NDSU. He then moved into sales before he and Kevin Johnson teamed up to acquire Farm Builders Inc. After 12 years, Fred sold his share to Kevin and became interested in construction management with RDO before to retire in 2003.
Fred was active throughout his life and enjoyed tennis, golf, his philanthropy with the Cormorant Lion’s Club and many other outdoor activities. He was a very sociable person and he liked to visit people. He and Ruth loved to travel and spent many winters in Arizona, California and Mexico, as well as over 40 years of summers by Pelican Lake. Above all, Fred loved his family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Fred is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth; children, Mark (Kim) Suppes, Michele “Shelly” Suppes and Dave (Jill) Suppes; grandchildren, Gabriel, Britta (Dan), Laura (Kent Hamre), Zachery, Karina, Elle, Grace, Anna, Samuel and Megan; great-grandchildren, Nina, Lucy, Stella, Berit and Sigrid.
His parents predeceased him; stepfather, Wallace McLees; brother, Garnet Suppes and younger brother, George Suppes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred at the Cormorant Lutheran Church or the Cormorant Lion’s Club.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, August 4, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior to the service at Cormorant Lutheran Church, Lake Park, MN.
The final resting place will be at the Cormorant Lutheran Church Cemetery Columbarium, where full military honors will take place prior to interment.
