What is Septorhinoplasty and How is it Different From Rhinoplasty
Septorhinoplasty is a combination of two surgeries, Septoplasty and Rhinoplasty. Septoplasty, which corrects a deviated septum to restore normal breathing function and rhinoplasty, which is for cosmetic or functional reasons to reshape shape of the nose.
Nose plastic surgery is done for either functional or cosmetic reasons. Septorhinoplasty is performed for both. It reshapes the nose so it is cosmetically better looking and balanced with the rest of the face. It also improves breathing by correcting a septum that became deviated through trauma, injury, disease or sometimes a previous surgery. Nearly 1 million people undergo nose surgery every year and there are many reasons why people decide to go along with it.
Who is Good Candidate?
If your concern is about any or all of the nose problems from above, you are physically healthy and have realistic expectations, you are probably a good candidate for Septorhinoplasty. Girls should be 16 or older and boys should be 18 years or older because it is important that growing stage is completed.
Septorhinoplasty Surgery Overview
Septorhinoplasty is performed to address above concerns and is performed in a surgery center to ensure a safe and effective procedure and a good outcome. Your surgery is performed under general anesthesia and will take about 2 ½ hours. A small cut is made inside the nasal cavity; the nasal mucosa is lifted and anything that obstructs the airway is repositioned or removed. The nose is reshaped and the incision is closed. Swelling and bruising around nose and eyes is normal and to be expected and diminishes daily until gone completely within a week or two. You will also be wearing splints during your week of recovery. The final result will be visible over a few weeks’ time after healing is complete and healing is gone.

The cost of Septorhinoplasty can vary based on different aspects. Septoplasty, in most cases is covered by the insurance because it is recommended by your doctor to improve your physical defect. On the other side rhinoplasty may not be because it is cosmetic. Insurance companies do not like to pay for procedures that are not necessary in their opinion.
The other aspect is where you live. As with anything else in the USA and Canada, the cost of goods and services depends on your geographic location. If you live in larger cities you will pay more for goods and services then you would if you live in rural areas.
And the last aspect is doctor’s fee. Each doctor values his/her work differently, mostly based on their experience, and will set their prices in the accordance with their belief. You might however be able to negotiate doctors fee so don’t be afraid to ask for discount.
